we went back to agate beach and hunted for agates for an hour or more.
you have to watch the waves coming in, or you can be washed out to sea
a lot of people are hunting today, they go away with bags full
we took a right at as place that said it was an elk viewing area, immediately saw 8-10 male elk grazing

At the Monterey resort (actually in Marina, CA) we are staying at a great place that I would like to move Gwen and I right into.. like a multibedroom condo, very nice! we are right on the beach

view to the north. We came out here about 6:30 am when you could barely see, and stayed for the sunrise. We saw a critter running off over the dunes, maybe a fox? Nothing to collect here but a few shells and a few sand dollars

It was raining this afternon so we went indoors to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, we kind of breezed through it, so it wasn't really worth the money
It stopped raining later on, so Gwen and I went back to the beach to see what we could see, we saw the sunset, the same birds, but no seals
Jan 28 Gwen and Sally go to Santa Cruz, and then we all drive for 8 hours to Las Vegas, NV
8am, Gwen and I make it to Santa Cruz, beautiful day! One day Gwen may live here, which is great because then I get to visit her!
You MUST love surfing if you are up at 8am in January to do it

We wondered if there were any sea lions here, but it was quiet. Then all of a sudden they woke up and started barking. They sleep in the water (or under the dock) and most of them sleep with a fin sticking out of the water. They just lay there in the water, floating.
We were eating ice cream cones at this point (great breakfast huh?) and I happened to turn away from the sea lions and looked to my right and this guy was staring me down.

walking back off the wharf, we spotted a Peregrin Falcon hangin out biting his leg on a palm
sunbathing in the van...lol I wonder how many people notice her as they walk by... It's 8am in January, so she is just getting a nice warmth from the weak sun... We were so careful with our kitties. Went to GREAT lengths to make sure they were ok always.
a few hours later we are in the van and coming upon the Sierra Nevada pass. Went through it without a hitch..

Jan 29 Vegas Strip.
First the Luxor. Watched some Black Jack and then just explored the room to see what there is to see. This place is big but I didn't get lost.. At the Luxor I went upstairs and found a whole level (the atrium) with the roof open to the pyramid shape of the building.. the hotel rooms are in this pyramid. I was told that when you ride the elevators they go slantways instead of up and down... I went to the arcade and killed some dinos in the Jurassic Park game. Amazing places. Didn't take too many pics.. to much to explore. I don't gamble, but the exploration was fun.
Luxor, upstairs had an Imax theater, and other theaters and shows and stuff

Then to the Bellagio. I roamed, and I actually got lost in there, weird floor plan.... But I found my way again.. Outside, each hour they have music playing to a cool water show.

everything is big and bright I tell ya!
They have a New York, New York themed place, complete with liberty and famous new york buildings.. a Paris themed place with the Arch de Triumph (or however you spell it..), etc.

and.....of course....
Also went to the Pink Flamingo, but I didn't take any pics there.. It was not as amazing as the other places..
These were really the only pics that turned out ok. But we'll be in Vegas a while, so I may add more...
